METHODS OF CONCEALMENT THAT ARE CLEVER AND ELEGANT
“AWKWARD GIVENS CAN LEAD TO GREAT SOLUTIONS THAT ENHANCE DÉCOR”.
Many projects come with different challenges. Here are three projects where different methods of concealment were used to handle ‘givens’ that were less than perfect.
Reflective Mirrors
In this project, the master bedroom emerged straight into the living room, or in other words, the bedroom was practically there in the living room itself. This one very specific factor can easily detract from the elegant and harmonious feel of a living room.
So what do we do? How do we resolve this when the space layout is a given and cannot be changed? We decided to use reflective mirrors. Reflective mirrors are versatile and offer various purposes: they enlarge the sense of space in a room and in this instance not only did they conceal the entrance to the bedroom, but they also concealed the integrated TV screen. The result is a perfectly elegant solution: space is seemingly enlarged, the entrance into the bedroom is elegantly camouflaged as is the TV screen. The large mirror helps light up the room and acts as a stylish stand-out focal point.
The TV is on.

Shelving Units
This project was a total gut renovation in a listed Bauhaus residence in the heart of Jerusalem with a small, dark, and somber basement which the client wished to transform into an inviting family room for the younger generation. To provide a more airy and spacious feel to the space, I decided to go with a stunning shelving unit that goes all the way to the ceiling, instead of a closed wall. In this way the unit serves various aesthetic and functional purposes: it acts as staircase railing, offers needed space for books and accessories, and with the light coming through the shelves, space feels larger, higher, and brighter. Thus, this shelving unit acts not only as a decorative element that adds style but also as a practical element that sections the space from the rest of the basement giving a boost to the whole space. Vibrant colors and trendy furniture complete the look of a ‘hangout’ for the young, and breathe new life into a previously gloomy and sad basement.

Panelled Wall & Doors
In this instance, we have elegant wood panel doors that again provide privacy by sectioning the space. Since the apartment is small, the panel doors are used to mark off the bedroom area of the space with the kitchen and dining area. This provides privacy in both instances but also enhances the look of both spaces. When the panel doors are closed they beautifully blend within the décor of the dining/dining room.
Wood panel doors are well suited to many home settings and are an especially good choice for a small area with little room for doors to swing open and close. They add a unique and customized look to the room that is both sophisticated and attractive.
So, whether it’s the illusion of privacy, decorative personality, or a small space solution that you need these are just a few room divider ideas that can help you solve your space needs.
